OGSIEC SEEKS POLICE SUPPORT TO CONDUCT FREE AND FAIR LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION.

 


The Ogun state Independent Electoral Commission, on Tuesday 4th of May 2021, sought for support of the state police command as it prepares for the forthcoming local government election, scheduled to hold on the 24th of July 2021.

The call was made, when the commission paid courtesy visit to the commissioner of police, cp Edward Awolowo Ajogun in his office, at Eleweran Abeokuta. 

Speaking through its chairman, Babatunde Osibodu, the OGSIEC acknowledged the fact that police been the lead agency in internal security, has a key role to play in conduct of any election. The chairman noted further that, the commission can not conduct any successful election without the support of the police because, the protection of election materials, as well as the electoral officers is the sole responsibility of the police. Therefore, the success of the forthcoming local government election depends largely on the cooperation and support of officers and men of the command. 

Responding, the commissioner of police cp Edward Awolowo Ajogun assured the commission of the command's resolves to ensure that the election is conducted under a very peaceful atmosphere. He stressed that the command will do everything possible within the ambit of the law to ensure free, fair and credible election.
